The national immunisation programme is a comprehensive preventive programme directed to vaccine-preventable communicable diseases. In Slovakia it began to be performed some 50 years ago. Its value lies in decrease of morbidity, mortality and consequences of infectious diseases, elimination and eradication of infectious diseases, improve of quality of life. This preventive measure is effectiveness and cost saved intervention strategy. In 1951 - 2005 it saved more than 1.59 million selected vaccine-preventable diseases (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, measles, rubella, and mumps) and 20 bilion Sk on their treatment.
