The introduction of an intensive therapy, e.g. HAART therapy, has changed the life of children with HIV infection. This therapy includes the combination of three antiviral drugs. The authors stress that it is a difficult treatment which expects all physicians treating this patients to be familiar with its particularities. In this report the principles of treatment are emphasized, groups of recently used drugs are defined, complications of this treatment, possible causes of its failure, utilization of other medications than antiretroviral and perspectives of HIV therapy are highlighted.
