Identifying the causes for lactase deficiency is the limiting factor of treatment. Lactase deficiency originates primarily from genetic causes or immaturity of gastrointestinal tract but can develop also secondarily as a result of acute or chronic diseases of gastrointestinal tract, which are to be thought of in course of correct differential diagnostics. Determining the correct diagnosis is the basis for correct treatment, which is the ground for adequate child development. Part II of this work is devoted to diagnostics and treatment of lactose intolerance.
