Sevelamer hydrochlorid is a „non-metal“ binder of phosphorus used in therapy of hyperphosphatemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism in adults with mineral and bone disease in chronic renal diseases treated by hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis. In non-dialyzed patients it is rarely used. In children good results have been recorded using it with combination of dialysis. There is a gap in information of its effectiveness in non-dialyzed children. The authors of the article describe their experience with the use of sevelamer hydrochlorid in pre-dialysis therapy of a 3-year-old child with chronic renal insufficiency in autosomal recessive polycystic renal disease.
