Neonatal sepsis or infection in the first weeks of life leads to more than 1 million deaths yearly. Clinical definition for sepsis is systemic inflammatory response syndrome with bacteremia accompanied with changed body temperature, inflammatory response, tachycardia, tachypnoe. For severe sepsis is characteristic cardiovascular or respiratory dysfunction. The most difficult stage is septic shock leading to multiorgan dysfunction. In the neonatal period is not possible to distinguish each single stage. There is also not advisable laboratory marker for early recognition.
