Parent/patient organizations have become a part of the health care system. When the patient is a child, the role of the parent and his cooperation with the pediatrician are important in managing the child’s health. The paper points to some specific problems in doctor-parent-child relationship and communication and deals with various issues in the improvement of pediatric health care to which parent/patient organizations can contribute. The Williams Syndrome Association in Slovakia is presented as an example of the activity of parent/patient organization.
