Pregnancy is associated with higher risk of development of venous thromboembolism that significantly contributes to maternal morbidity and mortality. Studies confirm relation between thrombophilia and complications during pregnancy. The most common drug used is low-molecular heparin. The article describes physiological changes of hemostasis in pregnancy, thrombophilia and principles of anticoagulation therapy.
