Introduction and objectives: To asses initial single-center experience with laparoscopic nephrectomies. Material and methods: From June 2010 till February 2011, 14 patients underwent transperitoneal laparoscopic nephrectomies. Perioperative and post operative results were assessed (operation time, blood loss, hospital stay, blood transfusions, revisions) by means of arithmetic diameter and standard deviation. Results: The mean age of patients was 58.3 years (SD ± 7,2), the mean tumor size was 6.8 cm (SD ± 1.1), mean operation time 189 min (SD ± 34), mean estimated blood loss was 75 ml (SD ± 46), mean hospital stay 3.5 days (SD ± 0.8). No revision was needed in post operative period. One blood transfusion was necessary after operation, because of low hemoglobin level, one operation required conversion to open surgery because of abdominal adhesions after cholecystectomy. Conclusion: Our initial experience indicates and proves the experience of other authors that laparoscopic transperitoneal nephrectomy is secure and established method for nephrectomy of tumor or otherwise affected kidneys. For further evaluation, more operations are needed.
