The authors offer a review of the current knowledge about the epidemiology, risk factors, pathophysiology, diagnostics and therapy of the chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). Without ambitions to exhaust this very rich topic, they aimed their attention at the current knowledge and its applying in the common medical practise in Slovakia. The necessity of the cooperation of an angiologist, angiosurgeon, radiologist and other specialists in the effort to prevent the development of complications and treatment is emphasized. The problem of the most severe complication - the venous ulcer is uderlined.
