The authors describe a case of severe amiodarone induced thyrotoxicosis and its treatment. Torpidity of the disease and worsening of the cardiological finding extorted a high-risk but effective way of treatment – total thyroidectomy. The authors point out the principles of thyroidological management of patients treated with amiodarone. Keeping to these rules can minimize the occurrence of fearful thyrotoxicosis. When amiodarone is indicated correctly and the patients are managed thyroidologically properly, there is no reason to be afraid of this antiarrhythmic drug.
