The obstructive sleep apnea syndrome is a potentionally life threatening disorder manifested by daily hypersomnia and snorring with cessation of respiration. Cardiovascular manifestations of this syndrome are significant - arrhythmia during sleep, arterial hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, cardiac insufficiency and sudden death during sleep as a result of fatal arrhythmia. This is considered to be a risk factor of the coronary artery disease worsening the prognosis of the basic disorder. The occurrence is higher in men, especially aged 40 to 50. Obstructive apneas and cardiovascular consequences of sleep apnea syndrome are treated by noninvasive positive ventilation.
