Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is an available therapy in patients with hemodynamically severe aortic
stenosis (AoS) in Slovakia. Patients with high risk for surgery and patients with contraindication for surgery are suitable
for the implantation. Procedures are concentrated into the three major heart centres in Bratislava, Banská Bystrica
and Košice. Despite the increasing numbers of procedures, total TAVI implants do not reach half the European average.
Furthermore, there is an expectation of additional widening of indication criteria towards the patients with intermediate
risk for surgery, supported by the recently published results of the PARTNER 2 clinical trial.
