The authors offer a review article about pediatric hydrocephalus, ethiopathogenesis and biomechanics, about possibilities of monitoring of intracranial dynamics and treatment. In pathogenesis of pediatric hydrocephalus the role play the volume changes of cerebrospinal fluid, pathways and cerebral tissue, changes of intracranial pressure and compliance, alteration of cerebral circulation, metabolic changes and secondary impairment of white matter and cerebral cortex. The purpose of drainage procedures is to achieve normal values of intracranial pressure and balance by alternative liquor drainage. The new knowledge of hydrocephalus pathophysiology and its using in clinical practice could lead to better outcome of treatment of child with hydrocephalus.
