The development of imaging techniques in the recent years significantly contributed to the refinement of diagnosis and classification of epilepsy. MRI has already been recognized as a method of choice in these patients. CT examination of the brain is considered appropriate only in those cases, where MRI is contraindicated or in patients with recent epileptic seizures, where there is a suspicion of acute ongoing process in the brain and where there is a danger “of the delay.” The authors confirmed the dominance of MRI examinations on their own cohort of patients, who were hospitalized at the 1st Department of nNeurology in the period since January 1, 1997 to January 1, 2002. They also present their own experience with MRS in 7 patients with solitary or sporadic temporal lobe epileptic seizures.
