Despite the indisputable development and benefit of endovascular treatment of aorta, the acute dissection of type A still remains a domain for surgeons and requires emergent surgical procedure. The aetiology of aortic dissection formation is multifactorial and its diagnosis and treatment is multidisciplinary. This article offers an overview of presently used surgical techniques over the surgical treatment of acute dissection of type A. In this article we focus on cerebral protection against ischemia which is considered to be crucial regarding the after surgical survival and neurological consequences.
