Conotruncal anomalies are congenital heart defects characterized by abnormal formation and septation of ventricular outflow tracts. If the fetal heart is imaged only from four-chamber apical view and five-chamber view is not performed, conotruncal anomalies are often missed. Five-chamber view of the fetal heart should be an obligatory part of prenatal morphological ultrasound investigation of each fetus. Prenatal detection of conotruncal anomalies improves perinatal and postnatal management of patients with these anomalies, and so decreases their morbidity and mortality.
