In Western countries, cardiovascular diseases affect in total 4% of pregnancies. Peripartum
cardiomyopathy is a rare, but severe disease associated with pregnancy. It
is a disease with a dilatation of the heart and the weakening of the heart rate. The
clinical image corresponds to other heart failure aetiology, with the rapid development
of symptoms. The main diagnostic method is echocardiography. The aetiology
of this life-threatening disease is unclear, the most discussed possible cause of peripartum
cardiomyopathy is an inflammation of the heart muscle - myocarditis. In
20-25% of cases there occur, after overcoming peripartum cardiomyopathy, an irreversible
damage of ventricular myocardial function, followed by the need for the heart
transplantation. In this case report, we describe a patient with the development
of peripartum cardiomyopathy after a Caesarean section.
