Glucose metabolism in pregnancy changes, while the key role is played by the placenta
- its implantation, transformation of placental circulation and communication
with the maternal organism - and requirements of growing foetus. From the view
of cytokines and adipokines in the regulation of glucose, the authors present the hypothesis
on the common origin of several pathological conditions in pregnancy, for
example, preeclampsia or gestational diabetes.
