Experience with colorectal stents has been available more than 15 years. They are used with palliative intend to patients refusing surgery or to patients with advanced disease and with severe co-morbidity. The other indication is a „bridge to the surgery“ where implanted stents allow preparation prior surgery with restoration of the intestinal lumen patency and thus avoid twosession surgery. Based on the published results success rate of stent insertion and lumen patency restoration is high. To settle down the definite role of colorectal stents in the treatment of colorectal carcinoma more randomized studies are needed.
