Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an invasive therapeutic and diagnostic method for certain diseases of bile and pancreatic duct. The possibility of serious complications, especially acute pancreatitis and the introduction of new diagnostic methods (magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic ultrasonography) led to that ERCP is now primarily a therapeutic method. Reducing the number of complications is subject to the right indication and sufficient erudition of endoscopic team. Therapeutic options of ERCP consist of papilosphincterotomy and other endoscopic therapeutic interventions in biliary and pancreatic excretory routes (concrements extraction, dilation of stenoses, stents implantation).
