The issue of malnutrition during hospitalisation remains a serious phenomenon affecting the clinical course of the disease.
The early recognition of a patient with the decondition of nutritional status is essential for an attending physician,
as the number of severe clinical complications increases significantly in the field of chronic catabolism with an entire
deficit in defense capability. At present, the nutrition program is well developed; we can cover almost any patient who
requires nutritional support. In case of the functional gastrointestinal tract, we prefer enteral nutrition through which
the caloric target can be achieved as reliably as through parenteral nutrition. Conversely, in case of the small intestine
failure with a disorder of absorption and digestion of nutrients, we choose parenteral nutrition with the administration
of nutritional substrates directly into the bloodstream.
