Geriatrics is not only dealing with „chronic elderly patients“ but also with a number of acute conditions. Many of them are typical for seniors for age related specific incidence. A physician is under pressure managing acute illnesses of the elderly. He is forced to decide very quickly and deal with apparent trifles because of deficit of information from the history and characteristic microsymptomatology and atypical symptoms in seniors. The article presents general specificity of diagnostics and treatment of acute diseases of the elderly and geriatric specificities of some acute diseases which are involved in internal geriatrics. Interdisciplinary medical cooperation is inevitable in acute geriatric diseases.
