Urinary tract infections belong to the second frequent infectious conditions (after respiratory infection). The inadequate cure of the acute phase can lead to the chronic complications, out of which the chronic renal insufficiency is the most serious. As a consequence of a long working inability and a need of antibiotic treatment it is also from economical point of wiev very serious illness. Authors deal with a basic characteristics of urinary tract infection: elementary terminology, pathogenesis, diagnosis a treatment in adults and pregnancy.
