Oncologic diseases are becoming one of the most serious health problems. Annually more people are killed by them than by AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria altogether. Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignant tumours. Most of the colorectal carcinomas, regardless of aetiology, arise from adenomatous polyps. At least during the first 5 years the tumour grows with no signs and in this period is diagnosed accidentally. Screening is important in pursuit of early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. The basic screening methods in the general practitioner’s surgery are a digital rectal examination and the detection of occult bleeding in the stool. In Slovak Republic this testing for occult bleeding in the stool has been made since the year 2002. This paper presents the results of 10 year testing in the GP´s surgery.
