Primary hyperaldosteronism (PH) is the most common type of endocrine hypertension and simoultaneously it is the
most common type of curabile hypertension. Long term increase in serum aldosterone level has negative cardiovascular
and renal effects. Patients with PH have significantly higher prevalence of acute cardiovascular events, strokes, higher
myocardial fibrosis and more severe renal impairment as compared to those with essential hypertension. Therefore
early diagnosis and treatment is very important for the patient and may lead to improvement of hypertension and to
regression of structural and functional cardiovascular and renal abnormalities. This article presents current knowledge
on diagnosis and treatment of PH.
