Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is is the most prevalent hepatic disorder affecting 25 – 30% of the total
population, and seems to increase dramatically. Environmental factors including inappropriate diets, physical inactivity,
and drug abuse cause progression of NAFLD to liver fibrosis, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The beneficial
effects of tea and herbal mixtures on the treatment of liver disease are anticipating. However, the results of
the clinical trials are not convincing and even a lot of cases of liver damage are described as a result of excessive
consumption of tea or herbal extracts.
