Diarrhea is very frequent symptom of both digestive diseases and non-digestive systems. It is often adverse effect of
medications, a manifestation of food intolerance or stress situations. Diarrhea can be the symptom of inconsequential
functional dyspepsia, but also the life threatening situation. Internists often meet with diarrhea and carry out differential
diagnoses. Diarrhea, according to the duration, is defined as an acute (infectious or not), persistent and chronic
one. In the management of acute infectious diarrhea it is necessary to respect the epidemiological rules. This article
proposes overview of differential diagnostic steps in diarrhea management.
