Metabolic diseases are conditions caused by impaired human metabolic processes. They comprise a huge spectrum of diseases; many of them are caused by genetic defect. Some of them are frequent (diabetes mellitus, electrolyte disorder, lactase deficiency), the others are less frequent (porfyrias) and many of them are rare conditions (gangliosidoses, mucopolysacharidoses, metabolic myopathies). Gastrointestinal symptoms are common part of many metabolic diseases causing problems to the patients and affecting their quality of lives. Aware of inability to write about all metabolic diseases, we are dealing with the commonest conditions related to their gastrointestinal symptoms.
