Chronic pancreatitis is a chronic disease of the pancreas, which in some cases leads to a shortage of enzymes and subsequent insufficient formation of the insulin. Several factors lead to its formation, including genetic and environmental factors, keeping its course variable. The summary of the knowledge about the diseases is enriched by new knowledge which is always incorporated into classifications in certain intervals. The classifications are not only theoretical and research significant, but they are also used in clinical practice both in the diagnostics and treatment. In addition to the existing classification, the article further informs on the three major classifications in the recent years: TIGAR-O classification, M-ANNHEIM classification and the ABC classification.
