Colorectal carcinoma is an important medical and socio-economic problem in developed countries. The golden standard in prevention and diagnostics of this disease is a colonoscopic examination. Correctly performed colonoscopy is safe, effective and well-tolerated. Besides symptomatic tumours it manages to reveal also asymptomatic early carcinomas and precancerosis. Removal of precancerotic lesions leads to lowering of colorectal carcinoma incidence. Quality of colonoscopy depends on various factors which are marked as quality indicators. These indicators should keep each doctor performing endoscopy.
