At present, endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is more and more frequently used as a therapeutical modality. Since the first literary reference in 1992, EUS navigated drainage of pancreatic fluid collections belongs to its most common therapeutical indications. Whereas at first in the treatment of pancreatic pseudocysts, plastic stents were extensively used, mainly double pigtail stents, after the implementation of new metallic so-called ‘lumen-apposing’ stents, the therapeutical success has significantly improved also in the treatment of circumscribed pancreatic necroses, so-called walled-off necrosis’ (WON). The high successfulness of the mentioned methodology, as well as lower morbidity and mortality compared to a surgical approach or percutaneous drainage under ultrasound or CT control, makes it preferable to first-line treatment.
