Transrectal ultrasonography (TRUS) is with magneric resonance (MRI) a basic diagnostic modality for anorectal diseases, due to its simplicity and high resolution. The indications for TRUS are: epithelial polyps, flat lesions in rectum, subepithelial leasions, circular tumors, and rectal cancer staging. This maethod can be used to find suitable candidates for endoscopic resection of subepithelial tumors and cadidates for neoadjuvant treatment in colorectal cancer. TRUS is also used for accurate assessing the depth of invasion and invasion in mesorectal lymph nodes in CRC.
