It is a generally accepted and well-documented opinion that ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn´s Disease (CD) belong to
the most important risk factors leading to the origin of colorectal carcinoma (CRC).
Ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn´s Disease (CD) are the third most common factor of CRC,
after familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) and Lynch syndrome (also known as hereditary
non polyposis colorectal cancer).
On the basis of a literature data summary, this article points to the current incidence of IBD-CRC, highlights the importance
of identification of risk factors of IBD-CRC origin, outlines the method of patients’ stratification, based on these
risks and provides the insight into the current trends of early diagnosis of colorectal carcinoma, associated with IBD.
