The risk of developing malignancy in patients with coeliac disease is higher than in general population. Malignant complications
increase not only the morbidity but they affect the quality of life and reduce the life expectancy. Poor adherence
to gluten-free diet (GFD) is considered a major risk factor for malignant evolution in celiac patients. Coeliac disease
predisposes to enteropathy- associated T-cell lymphoma (EATL) and less often to gastrointestinal carcinomas. Persistence
or recurrence of diarrhoea, abdominal pain, involuntary weight loss, and fever with night sweating should alert physicians
to suspicion of developing complications and lead to an extensive diagnostic workup and adequate treatment.
